Gemcraft - Chapter One: The Forgotten

GamesInABottle presents a new TD game in which you play the role of a magician who has needs to defend the world against evil monsters. However, Gemcraft - Chapter One: The Forgotten is not a classic TD game but provides you with some innovative features which make it something special. This time, magically created gems are used to eliminate all the evil monsters.

The gems are placed in the towers and possess different attack modes as, for example, Splash Attack, Poison, Armour Reducement and so on. You can combine up to three gems as well to save space and create even stronger towers to eliminate the monster hordes. Moats are used to slow the enemy down.

Mana is essential to build towers and create gems. You will receive it each time you kill a monster or via a mana pool which is quite expensive but provides you with even more mana and points at destroying monsters. Mana is increased slowly during the game as well. If you kill the monsters very quickly, you will receive a lot of points. You can also send more than one wave into the game at the same time and increase your highscore if you are able to cope with that.

Information about the gems

All gems can be created from the start but remember that gems with a higher level will cost more mana than others. The colour of the gems is selected at random but you can combine gems of different colours to create stronger precious stones with combined powers. The powers of monochrome gems are more impressive though. It's up to you to decide whether to trust monochrome gems or combine them to save space and get a combination of their strengths. If you like, you can also throw gems on the path to cause damage or change their position to attack the monsters more than once.

There is a campaign card for all levels from which you can choose the campaign you'd like to play in whatever order you choose. You can also repeat campaigns to increase the level and skill points of your magician and make him even stronger as a result.

Analysis

Gemcraft - Chapter One: The Forgotten is a TD game which is rather innovative compared to other Tower Defence games. The new gameplay mechanism provides for strategical depth and you do not get weary of it. It is advisable to repeat the individual levels every now and then to improve the strength of your hero. The golden highscore is the reward if you complete a level very well. Through it you will be able to activate bonus cards. If you like TD games, you will certainly love Gemcraft - Chapter One: The Forgotten.
